This week’s reading was very interesting to learn about what they went through in their lives. It was painful to realize that the same actions, W.E.B. Du Bois and Booker T. Washington went through are still going on today. The actions today are just hidden from plain sight, that is, till the current administration took over. With the current administration taking away DEI from law in the United States, this shows we are currently falling backward in thought. This is all because of one man’s vision for how he sees fit to run the USA. We are seeing the same thing Booker T. Washington went through growing up. happening to people of other countries, legally or illegally, in the USA today.
The problem with seeing racism happening right before our eyes is that it is happening from every skin color. Today, we are seeing African American women shouting and signaling racism towards the best white American woman in the WNBA. This is truly brutal to see right before our eyes on national TV during the games and interviews. The amount of hate towards one white person is astounding to see.
Some people think there has been a lot of self-sabotage in the African American community. Due to the parts of having white people explode, with an example of the Detroit riots that happened in July of 1967. This was due in part because of white police officers starting trouble with African Americans (Emeka).
Today, we are seeing the 2,000 National Guard being called by President Trump to keep the peace with the political protests that have turned violent in Los Angeles. The governor of Los Angeles states, “purposely inflammatory and will only escalate tension.” (Boone). This is what we are seeing as open racism, with the Trump administration taking all efforts to get rid of all people who they think should not be in the USA.
One thing we do see is colleges having African Americans enrolled and graduating. For some reason, they still think they will not succeed in today’s world. One way I look at this is allowing the realms of the past to take the reins for the future with this way of thinking. We have seen a complete flip from what we saw in the readings from Du Bois and Washington. Booker T. Washington School is still operating today as Tuskegee University in Alabama. Such an amazing historical fact that the education Washington so harshly barred, the backlash all around him is operating today.
We live in a world where hate is full, no matter what color of skin we have. Technology is used to supply the power of destruction; unfortunately, something so powerful is used once again to turn people against one another. We see the delights of what technology does for our education process in this class.
We will always see the debate of good and evil everywhere; the only way this goes away is if money goes away. Once there is no money, there is nothing to debate or fight about by wanting more than the other person. I hope to see in my lifetime a society that loves others, but I think at this point that’s wishful thinking.
